It has been 8 years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the Dent anti-crime Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane (a disgraced member of the League of Shadows) as he gathers together an army of insurgents in an underground resistance that soon has Gotham at it's knees. Even the cat burglar, Selina Kyle, has motives that sacrifice Batman's re-emergence to an imprisonment that will need him to readdress all of his fears to escape, and bankrupts the family empire. Nonetheless Batman has supporters who know the truth about Harvey Dent and they need him more than ever with Gotham hovering on the edge of destruction when one of Wayne Enterprises own inventions winds up in the wrong hands.
Loyalty, faith and trust appear to be the only real weapons anyone has against adversity.
Reviews:
"The Dark Knight, ....[is] a powerful, intricately constructed work, thoughtful, visceral and satisfying." Phillipa Hawker The Age
"With a pulsating final installment that runs to almost three hours, Christopher Nolan has conjured up that most difficult of tricks -- matching the high expectations of dedicated Batman fans and delivering a Hollywood blockbuster with credibility." Garry Maddox Sydney Morning Herald
"The Dark Knight Rises not only realistically tackles the physical and emotional ravages and consequences of a being Batman, but also makes the entire three-film story scintillatingly cyclical.: Paul Verhoeven The Vine
