The odds are against him. So is everyone else. It’s been a bad day for Driver and it’s not getting any better. He just made a big haul of millions that would give him a nice summer vacation on easy street. A good idea that went south – literally.
With a bleeding body and the stash in the back seat, Driver is under pursuit and flips his car smashing through the US border wall coming to a stop in Mexico. The Mexican authorities bargain with the border patrol for his jurisdiction and, coincidentally, the money. He is sent to a hard core prison, the strange and dangerous ‘El Pueblito’ - 'the world's sh*ttiest mall' with food stalls, drugs and sex on demand, guns in plentiful supply and an intimidation-driven system run by the sleeziest thug in 'town'. Driver discovers a 10-yr old boy who appears to be under the thug's protection who is saving the boy for spare body parts for his ailing kidney. The plot and action accelerates as Driver’s plan to escape and recover the money eventuates.
